Enhancing Xed Point Logic with Cardinality Quantiiers

Let Q IFP be any quantiier such that FO(Q IFP), rst order logic enhanced with Q IFP and its vectorizations, equals inductive xed point logic, IFP in expressive power. It is known that for certain quantiiers Q, the equivalence FO(Q IFP) IFP is no longer true if Q is added on both sides 12, 13]. Rather, we have FO(Q IFP ; Q) < IFP(Q) in such cases. We extend these results to a great variety of qu...

On the cardinality of power homogeneous compacta

We prove that if X is a power homogeneous compact space then |X| 2c(X)·πχ(X). This generalizes similar results of Arhangel’skiı̆, van Douwen and Ismail. We apply this result to get new estimates for the cardinality of (power) homogeneous compacta satisfying some special conditions.  2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Symbolic computation with finite quandles

Algorithms are described and Maple implementations are provided for finding all quandles of order n, as well as computing all homomorphisms between two finite quandles or from a finitely presented quandle (e.g., a knot quandle) to a finite quandle, computing the automorphism group of a finite quandle, etc. Several of these programs work for arbitrary binary operation tables and hence algebraic ...

Embeddings of Homogeneous Spaces in Prime Characteristics

Let X be a projective algebraic variety over an algebraically closed field k admitting a homogeneous action of a semisimple linear algebraic group G. Then X can be canonically identified with the homogeneous space G/Gx, where x is a closed point in X and Gx the stabilizer group scheme of x. A group scheme over a field of characteristic 0 is reduced so in this case, X is isomorphic to a generali...

Cardinality Homogeneous Set Systems, Cycles in Matroids, and Associated Polytopes

A subset C of the power set of a finite set E is called cardinality homogeneous if, whenever C contains some set F , C contains all subsets of E of cardinality |F |. Examples of such set systems C are the sets of all even or of all odd cardinality subsets of E, or, for each uniform matroid, its set of circuits and its set of cycles. With each cardinality homogeneous set system C, we associate t...
